This is NOT another one those
"why can't we all just get along" type of ideas. No, I have ANOTHER dream.
Nearly six score years ago, I was born
into a nation at war.
The conquering of Nazi Europe and
Imperialist Japan served as a great beacon light of hope to millions of people throughout
the world who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice, torment, suffering,
and death at the hands of dictators.
The winning of WWII came as a joyous
daybreak to end the long night of suffering brought on by man's inhumanity to man.
And fifty-seven years later, we must face
the tragic fact that Americans and the rest of the world still suffer from the same evils
brought on by war, death and destruction, greed, lawlessness, injustice, ignorance, and
insensitivity to the suffering of men, women and children the world over.
"I have a dream that one day this
nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths
to be self-evident: that all men are created equal," said Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I have a dream that one day women and men
throughout the United States will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood
and unite to form one cohesive unit dedicated to establishing an agenda to, (1) work
together to solve our common concerns; and, (2) combine our wealth and resources to ease
the suffering of ALL people throughout the world.
Yes, I have ANOTHER dream today.
That our political leaders from every
philosophy and every persuasion combine to form an invincible team of leadership for the
purpose of leading America in a manner that will preserve our democracy and the future and
well-being of every citizen of our nation.
I have ANOTHER dream, that our political
leaders recognize that a coalition of past and present leaders from all political parties
must unite in one voice against all who seek to destroy Americans and our way of life.
I have ANOTHER dream, today, that our
political leaders in Congress and the White House unite and agree that no one political
leader, political party, or political philosophy can adequately solve American's concerns
for their safety and well-being. And that these leaders IMMEDIATELY, with urgency, resolve
to recommit their efforts to alleviate and ease American's concerns.
I urge President George W. Bush to form a
permanent advisory committee to the executive branch composed of former U.S. Presidents.
This committee should utilize its unsurpassable knowledge, experience and unique
perspective to devise immediate and necessary solutions for America's common defense and
general welfare and publish their consensus and communicate their findings and conclusions
to every member of Congress.
P.S. Thank you, Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr., for sharing your noble vision with us, and the rest of the world, so many years ago.
And thank you, also, for letting me borrow
your words. I borrowed them in good faith knowing they would, once again, serve us all in
our hour of need.
Your dream became our dream. We are
thankful for it and grateful to you for sharing it.
Rest in peace dear, kind, sir. |
